For Now And Always

I wrote this poem when I was 26. I had a bad case of unrequited love. Oh unrequited love... The stuff that makes THE best love songs and poetry. The best examples [I think] are from the Renaissance age. How the courts were filled with letters, poems, and songs about unrequited love.  Here's my poem:

I cannot give you love
But you can know my heart's desire
I cannot give you a kiss
One that will fill you with fire

I cannot hold your hand
Although I dream to all the time
In my mind always hoping
That you'll one day be mine

I cannot hold you in my arms
But I can stand kind of close
I cannot lie embraced with you
That's what I wish for the most

I cannot have heated battles with you
I'd still love you the same
I cannot be quenched by the sun's rays
After nearly drowning in the rain

To hope to someday be with you
Is all that I can do
It's up to you to let me in
If that
Is what you choose to do

Just know this love is here for you
For now and always
For now it is enough for me
To be near you just the same.
